Who’s to say that advent calendars are JUST for kids?!?! I have been eyeing the wine advent calendars that are sold around the city but every time I look at the price tag, I just can’t pull the trigger. So I decided to try to make my own!
Of course, the first thing I did was buy the wine!! This turned out to be quite a helpful step because I was able to measure the size of the bottles which helped me decide which supplies to buy.
List of supplies:
-13 small bottles of wine
- 3 inch PVC tube (cut into 13, 9” pieces)
-hot glue (LOTS) or other adhesive
-Rustoleum gold spray paint
-card stock
-number stickers
I chose the 3 inch PVC pipe because it fit my largest bottle. Although, it unfortunately comes with holes in it - not really the look I was going for but once the pipe is spray painted, the holes aren’t as noticeable. I cut the pipe using a miter saw into 9“ pieces. You need 13 pieces in order to make the tree shape - not your typical 24 day advent calendar but it would’ve been huge if I did 24.
Once all the pieces are cut, I hot glued them together into the tree shape. I used A LOT of hot glue, just to make sure it was secure and nothing would fall. After the glue is dry, you can spray paint the tree.
Next, cut out card stock circles to cover the front and back of the pipes. This hides what’s inside and keeps the type of wine a surprise!I glued these on just with some liquid Elmers glue, so they wouldn’t be too difficult to get off. (You don’t want anyone struggling to get their wine!) Lastly, put the bottles of wine in, put the card stock circles on the backside, tie a bow around the tree and there you have your DIY Wine Advent Calendar!

**I found after delivering the advent calendars, that they didn't travel well. A couple bottles pushed the card stock out and one pipe came loose. The card stock was an easy fix, I just hot glued it instead. Next time I might try a stronger glue to adhere the pipes together.
Happy crafting (and drinking)! 😉
