Mud Kitchen

You guys, I’m so excited and proud to show you this! This is my second solo power tool project and it turned out pretty good, I think! I’m getting more and more confident using the saw and the impact drill. With two outdoor projects under my belt, I think that I’m nearly ready for an indoor project! Maybe.... But first, look at this mud kitchen!

I have been eyeing these mud kitchens that have been circulating Pinterest (you know, that’s where all good ideas start). I obviously loved the idea since Emilia’s been playing with sand in the shed and Jacob can’t keep his hands out of the mud. So why not give these two a place to have more fun and get even messier? Plus, I’ve been inspired by @angelarosehome mantra: “Stop pinning, start doing”.
I found a plan that I liked and but also, one that I thought I could handle, being a beginner! While I didn’t follow this plan exactly, it was SO helpful in getting me started! For this project I really wanted to use what we had laying around rather than going out to buy new materials. So instead of using the 2x4s that itcalled for, I ended up using 2x6s. It looks a bit chunkier in the end but functions the same. The other change I made was forgoing the shelf underneath the countertop. We have a wicker shelf that can perfectly hold any pots, bowls, etc.
I started by mapping out where the kitchen was going to go. Do you like my professional mapping with rocks? Hehe.

Then I measured and cut all the boards. Once all the boards were cut, I started piecing it together. Learning the finesse of the impact drill has definitely been the hardest part for me but it got smoother and easier as I went along.

The project was going pretty smooth, then I got to the last board and guess what happens? It doesn’t fit! I feel like you’ve got to hit a snag in every project though. So with Wilson’s help, we took two boards out, added in the one that wasn’t fitting and now the countertop has a slight lip, which works for me!

Now for my favourite part, accessorize!! I pulled out some extra mixing bowls, wood stirring spoons, got a water jug to act as a faucet, some of my old spices from the kitchen and pretty flowers for curb appeal!

Voila, that’s the mud kitchen, let the mud pies begin!
